from horses to ferrets, form bonds with human beings. Some are deeper than others because like individual people, individual animals differ. Make no mistake—they like being fed, especially if they’re dependent on it as is the case with most house pets. If they can’t go outdoors to hunt, they need you to feed them. But We recently returned from a two-week trip, during which time my nieces came in daily to feed and hang out with the cats (they like animals, they live nearby, they’re on summer break from school and they sent cute pictures), and one cat—the clingier one—was at the door vocalizing as we walked down the hallway from the elevator. He seriously missed us. The other was less effusive, because that’s her nature, but she made it clear—lots of purring—that she too was pleased we’d come back.
